What percentages mean and how to use them

Percent means "per hundred." When you say 25%, you mean 25 out of every 100, or 25/100, or 0.25. Percentages let you compare parts to wholes on a standard scale, regardless of the actual numbers involved.

What's the difference between percentage points and percent?

Can a percentage be more than 100%?
